Back when I was trying to find jobs AND stay home with my Nix I was trained as an indoor cycle instructor. I had a class one day a week and I substituted as much as I possibly could. This gave me a free gym membership and I was paid for doing something I absolutely LOVE to and NEED to do... EXERCISE! So my connections as and instructor are still paying off. A friend of mine and my mom's who is one of the best instructors in SC is letting me borrow her indoor spin bike for the season so I can cycle during Tino's morning nap. I blast my music and Nixon plays or bounces on the bed for at least 45 minutes each day.
The story gets better! In the apartment where we live there is a gym, it isn't that great of a gym, but there are machines and weights, everything I need (not everything Brett needs). I would go there regularly and let Tino sleep in the stroller and Nix would watch TV or walk on the tread mill or just play with toys he brought. I was running a couple months ago on the tread mill and I was at 2.2 miles, planning on doing at least 4 miles when the apartment manager came in and said "You can't be in here with your kids." I looked at her and was speechless for a moment, still running, then said, "That is Terrible!" I kept running while I was talking to her, then finally had a feeling like "maybe you should stop the tread mill and go home," so I did. I didn't know what I was going to do on those days that 6 am is just too early for me to wake up and exercise. It's important to follow rules I thought.
About a month after this happened I heard a story about a little girl falling on a tread mill that her mom was running on, and her hand was sucked under the tread and burned severely, requiring a few surgeries.
I haven't brought my children into the gym since. Tada! Then the blessings come...
