BMX

Well, Nix is back at the BMX racing. He didn't want to do it anymore for a good 6 months, then out of no where, "I'm ready to race my bike at the BMX track mom." Really? Let's do it. So a couple weeks ago he won his first 3rd place and tonight he won his first 2nd place. Every time I ask him if he wants to ride he says YES.

His next feat is a 5k. Let's see, we need to get some new running shoes!

May 27th, he has his running shoes, he is signed up for a 5K with me...
and he has won his second 2nd place trophy... since I originally wrote this post.

Trophy

Well, Nix won his first trophy! We went to BMX tonight, Nix hasn't raced for a long time, he wanted to race and I felt he was ready, so Brett came out and helped him with heats and starts. He did about 6 laps of practice, then Heat 1 finished 4th, Heat 2 finished 2nd, Heat 3 finished 2nd (which qualified him for the main event) He finished 4th out of the final 8 kids (5 and under) in the main event, earning him a little trophy. First thing he asked, "why is it so small?" He loves it and so does his little brother Tino.

Trusting the Weatherman

I look at the weather every day to help me plan what to wear and what to do, but my faith in the weather predictions has been wavering because of days that it says rain, and not a drop of rain falls. BMX night wouldn't have happened had I totally trusted the weatherman, we went anyways hoping the track wouldn't close last minute, yesterday we went to Disneyland regardless of rain predictions, and we did get rained on as we were leaving, Nix did get sprinkled on lightly while riding the track, but it wasn't bad, and he loved it! He said a prayer that it wouldn't rain at the track so it wouldn't close. He really wants to race next week, so he did two strong laps, standing the whole time to show me that he could race. He was trying hard to balance on his peddles at the gate the best he could, it was cute watching him. We don't need to be afraid of the rain, just prepared when we possibly will venture into it.

Here is a picture of a worried Tino. Worried because Nix was driving. He didn't really understand what was going on. Why is Nix driving??? Autotopia.

BMX tonight

BMX tonight was a crack up for me... I just kept laughing at stuff. Well, I gave us 15 minutes to get ready, get in the car and go... so the chances of forgetting something was high. I thought the boys shoes were in the car, and they were this morning before we went to Trader Joe's to replenish our 72 hour kit, but I guess the shoes were brought into the house and put away. I forgot both boy's shoes. I think of it as we exit the freeway in Orange. I couldn't possibly go home and come back in enough time to make the practice worth $7. So I jump out of my car and ask the first person I see with a little boy if they have any extra size 13 shoes in their car. (A lot of kids have clip-ins so they could have their regular shoes in the car when they put on their clip-in shoes, so it's worth asking). I stopped my search when I realize that we have spongebob crocs in the car. How lucky and how funny. I have Nix put them on and try riding around and standing up as he rides to make sure he can do it safely. I pay for his practice and off he goes. Tino roamed around with his socks on, the other kids thought it was pretty funny!
He did amazing tonight. He was wearing crocs, he was standing up the whole time, he rode by me once and said, "Did you see that jump?" I'm cheering for him every time he passes me, and he thinks he is actually racing. Then, when the gates came up he dropped onto the gate all by himself and he waited for the gate to drop, then rode out of it all by himself. He was getting into each hill, shifting his body weight, and he even crashed for his first time, he said, "Two boys crashed then I crashed into them, but we crash when we ride." He was totally fine with it. I love taking him to the track and watching him progress. I think he may start racing soon. He is looking more ready than ever before. He wants a dirt motorcycle. I told him when he gets 5 trophies he can get a dirt bike. We will see! He says when he grows up he wants to be a race car driver. That's a little expensive you ambitious little thing! I don't know how it's all going to work out for him, but I will try my best to help him accomplish his goals, within reason of course.

First BMX Practice

He is not afraid of many things. And tonight I was pretty nervous for him, but he said he had more fun riding the dirt track with his bike than going to Disneyland. Well, with that said, we bought him a membership, and promised him that after he practiced 10 times on the track we would buy him a lighter bike. He REALLY wants a lighter bike, he calls it a smaller bike. The first two times around the track he fell on the biggest step up hill that was there, but after that he nailed it the next 4 times. The people there were very nice and helpful, he never was discouraged, he never seemed tired. After the practice we stayed to watch the races and Nix said, "I thought I was going to race." Brett felt that he was a little unsteady at the start, having to balance on the steal platform, so after a few more practices we will let him race for fun. I'm going to let him decide if he wants to be competitive, I'm just encouraging the fun of it. He had so much fun, and Tino had fun watching with me. I'm so glad he got out there, and can't believe how much he loved it! I really enjoy being with my family, doing recreational things.
